When Residents Lead, Community Flourishes

Shaker Pointe was honored to be invited by LeadingAge New York to lead a panel discussion on resident engagement at this year’s Senior Housing Summit—a meaningful recognition of the resident-driven culture that defines our community.

Members of our Resident Council joined the panel to share how collaboration, creativity, and shared leadership shape life at Shaker Pointe. They highlighted resident-led initiatives such as the Creative Elders books and the Defenders of the Earth environmental group, offering powerful examples of how ideas grow when residents are empowered to lead.

Representing our residents, staff, and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, whose mission of serving the “dear neighbor” guides our work, was a true privilege. We are proud to be recognized by our peers—and even more proud to show that when residents lead, the community truly thrives.
