If there’s anything we believe at Shaker Pointe at Carondelet, it’s that creativity doesn’t have an expiration date. Our residents continue to write, create, learn, and share their talents here in a variety of ways, and resident Vince Powers is no exception.
This summer, Vince celebrated the publication of his own collection of short stories, which span a variety of subjects and genres. Vince’s writing is already familiar to members of the Shaker Pointe community, as he has been featured in both editions of Creative Elders, the anthology series showcasing the original writing and artworks of our residents.
To recognize Vince’s accomplishment, Shaker Pointe’s resident-led Creative Writing group, which also spearheaded the publication of Creative Elders, organized a special reception in his honor. Fellow residents gathered to celebrate the new book, congratulate Vince, and enjoy a sweet touch provided by Chef Aubree, Director of Shaker Pointe’s Dining Services–ice cream!

Vince’s achievement (about which he has remained characteristically humble) is about more than publishing a book; it is a reflection of the unique opportunities residents have at Shaker Pointe to pursue interests, develop new skills, and continue doing the things they love.
Whether participating in creative writing, trying out for our theater program, attending a class or activity, or simply sharing a lifelong passion with neighbors, residents at Shaker Pointe have plenty of opportunities to keep creating and connecting.
Congratulations to Vince, and thank you for sharing your stories with the Shaker Pointe community! We can’t wait to see what you write next.
